"Kolgirl"

By Pamela Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 01:13:00 01/08/2009 Filed Under: business process outsourcing (BPO), Human Interest, Employment If you are familiar with the terms QA,Queuing, EOP, ACW, AHT, avail, then you are one of us, the thousands of "kolboys" and "kolgirls" in the Philippines. We belong to the sleep-deprived, nicotine-inhaling, cab-riding new breed of Filipino youth. We infuse our anemic, caffeinated veins with ferrous sulfate every day so that we won't be "NCNS" (no call, no show) for our next shift. "Ginagawa naming araw ang gabi." [We make the night our day.] Glamorous? Well, if your idea of glamour is staggering down Ortigas Avenue wearing Paris Hilton shades at 8 in the morning, looking dog-tired while everybody else looks fresh and new, then we are the kings and queens of glamour. Bohemian? Ha ha! We follow a very rigid schedule. We cannot go on extended breaks. We cannot hang up on cursing customers. We cannot...

Spur of the Moment

It is not worth it. New Year na, kailangan magbagong buhay na ako. We can't impress everyone talaga. I know I have my share of shitness, I did people wrong, pero I still struggle to make things right.

10 Stress Busters

Simplify Cut your to-do list in half. How? Ask yourself this question after every item: Will I die tomorrow if this doesn't get accomplished? I'm guessing you'll get a lot of no's. I'm sure Franklin Covey has a more efficient and elaborate system. But here's mine: Every morning I immediately jot down my to-do list. Once I experience the first heart palpitation, the list gets cut in half. Prioritize Let's say you've got five huge work projects due next week, two Cub Scout commitments you promised your son, your mom's overdue taxes on your desk, your wife's 40th birthday celebration to plan, and your sister's computer to fix. What do you do? You record all the tasks on a sheet of paper or on your computer and you give each one a number between 1 and 10: 10 being the most important (life threatening) to one (stupid bloody thing I signed up for). Start with the 10s. If you never get beyond the 8s, that's okay! Use Pencil, Not Pen If you rely ...

Sharing

Because of many things going on, I looked for some reflections in the internet to help me achieve my goals for this year. I would like to share this article, it may help you have some ideas on how to deal with life. Give Yourself a Break Sometimes you need some distance-some time to cool off and reflect. But it should be just that, i.e., a limited amount of time after which you and the person with whom you are fighting agree to come back together and revisit the issues. A time out can be a great thing, as long as its design is to bring you back together. Respect the Other Person's Dignity The one whom you are in conflict with should never lose their value as a human being. No matter how right you think you are and how wrong they may be, don't deny their dignity; you will do more harm than good. Experience Radical Empathy We must do everything in our power to identify with the other person and their position before fighting for our own. Simply saying that we unde...

Dreams

Kanina nanaginip na naman ako. I actually plan to change my life this 2009. Anyway, I googled it again, and nakakatawa lang kasi parang may pahiwatig talaga. This is the Google result I got: Wedding To see a wedding in your dream, symbolizes a new beginning or transition in your current life . Dreams involving weddings are often negative and highlight some anxiety or fear. It often refers to feelings of bitterness, sorrow, or death . Alternatively, wedding dreams reflect your issues about commitment and independence . Wedding Dress To wear a wedding dress in your dream, indicates that you are eval...
